If you were to start your own business I think you could do MANY things creatively. One, there is your scrapbooking which is wonderful. You could scrapbook for others and such for a fee. Then you have your design which I think is SPOT ON, I've been meaning to pick your brain about design too btw. I think you could do design for invitations, announcements, packaging design, branding and more. And then you have your girl vectors which would look great for bands or t-shirts.
Honestly, I think you have a LOT to work with already. Have you thought of putting your work on cafepress? They print and such for you--it's pricey BUT you don't have to bulk order shirts and such or worry about the printing and such. It's a thought.

I currently do have a cafepress store, though it's from around 2007, I have never updated it, and I think I forget the password!! I was thinking of maybe finding a way to break into the whole scrapbooking thing, there are people out there who are very successful doing it, though I would have to find a way to actually get into it. I've been more and more thinking of doing clothing for babies and children. Illustrations that would go onto tee and onsies, that type of thing, as well as room accessories (like prints) as well as other merchandise. Though of course I am still considering doing design work, it's still a passion of mine, though I haven't actually done anything new in 2 years!

What do you do to pay to pay the bills at the moment?

I don't pay the bills, or do anything :( Right now I'm a stay at home mom with no job prospects in my area. I can't afford to move somewhere else for better jobs either so I'm kind of stuck between a rock and a hard place. I've always wanted to run my own business, even if was just a little mom and pop type of operation. When I first had the idea I wanted to do graphic design, since that was what I had studied in college, but I find myself drawn more and more towards illustration. I've been thinking about start a childrens line of clothing and accessories using my illustrations, but I'm still so up in the air about the whole thing!!! I know I would have the support of my family if I did it though, which is great :)

Well 'mom & pop' places don't really exist any more sadly, i think everyone would like to get paid to do what they love even if its just enough to live but i don't think that's realistic. Illustrators tend to work freelance, you will start doing stuff cheap and free, you need to be doing stuff every day.

As for clothing range, it can be hard to start your own range of clothes etc because most graphics students can now put their art on deviant art or a similar site which sells their designs on shirts and cups etc.

From what i've seen i'd recommend you start with books, maybe sell designs for a clothing range to a larger company, mother care etc. Maybe books on how to do what you do?

Also i would love to know how you made a image like [link] for example, how you got the colours to fade out like that, software you use etc. Some people like myself would pay to watch a video tutorial or something.

I think video tutorials from people like yourself are going to become very big so you might want to capitalize on that?

If you wanna take me up on a video tutorial, please note me :D

I never actually thought about tutorials, though I have thought that I would eventually like to publish an artbook. It is most definitely true that mom and pop shops aren't around much anymore, though where I live is a small town with many small shops, since tourism is a heavy part of our community. What I would really like to do is open up an actual shop, that could branch into more than one shop, like many of the store that are around today, and many of the new ones popping up (though not on a huge scale) I'm situated on a tiny island in Canada so branching out even into the Maritime provinces would be great. When it came to clothing designs I was thinking I would like to do them for childrens clothing, but the shop would also carry other products not made by me, for instance cloth diapers and accessories, childrens books, that type of thing. I would also love to illustrate a childrens book. Anyway I'm rambling, which I tend to do. I don't have a business plan as of yet, and I of course realize that I will need to work at a steady job while working on this project. But I figure if everyone who wanted to open up shop just quit before they even tried all we would have is Wal-Mart, but I see so many independant shops doing at least half decent for themselves.

As for a video tutorial, eeps, I think that if I showed everyone how I worked that they would stop liking my stuff!
