I put the Flash in FlashParade

Journal Entry: Sat Sep 26, 2009, 9:21 PM

Argh, I both love and hate Flash all at the same time. I've spent the past week frantically animating and programming a Flash site so that I have an updated portfolio for my self.  Why am I doing it in Flash you ask?  First, because then I can make the buttons all pretty and have animation, and second, because I know absolutely NOTHING about HTML, or how to make a website any other way.  Trust me, if I knew how to do it the other way I would, cause it's a heck of alot easier in some cases, but that's just the way it goes!  I'll be even happier when it's done and I can get back to some actual art.  Also, I've been thinking about not doing anymore vectors using stock photography, mostly because there are usually rules about selling work outside of DA and I really want to get my art out there.  What do you think, do you guys like my vectors? Should I give them up all together?

Whatever you choose in your life path is your choice to make, Cathy, and the only right we have to dictate what you do is to sit back and enjoy the show. I'm sure you'll do wonderfully in whatever field of art you continue with.

If you can make a nice portfolio with Flash it'll be a pleasure for visitors. So sad that I have zero knowledge about Flash. *starts sobbing* Tried to learn, but gave up. But if you're lazy, I think CarbonMade is pretty good. I like it better than DA portfolio.

And I have the same problem about DA resources and their copyrights. Maybe you can try something else while still working on vectors once in a while. Giving up is such a waste. You have very good stuff. =[ Then again, maybe you'll find happiness in exploring new styles. So go for it! =]

thanks for the advice, I'm going to check out CarbonMade as well :) See, for some reason I can kind of understand Flash, but there are other things that I just can't grasp, like Dreamweaver, or any type of programming language, I get all depressed everytime I try to figure it out.

Noooooooo, flash hurts my brain! I can get to grips with it for animating, just, dont ask me to do anything too fancy, lol! But I could never get my head around making a website.
In fact, I suck at making websites and dont have the patience to unsuck... thank you deviantart portfolio! You save me much computer thouwing out of window-ness.
Your vectors are always stunning, it would be nice if you could work your way around it, but I wouldnt stop using stock images to practice and blow peoples eyes out.

I ended up making a DA portfolio for now anyway! I started realizing I couldn't afford the web hosting and a domain name so I made on to use for now while I continue to work on my own site. I would really like to get an HTML site up sometime though since they're so much easier to add to, and also, "blow peoples eyes out" lol :D

I personally love flash for websites. I think it allows for more creativity then html or dreamweaver. I really need to start on my webiste too. Good luck!

I really love flash too for websites, I mean it does have some issues that I don't like, but in general I just love the flow you can have with flash.

I don't think it'll be up for awhile yet, I don't have the money right now for webhosting, so I guess I've got to make due with a DA portfolio for now, which isn't such a bad thing, they can turn out fairly nice with a little work :)
