The Echo chamber dilemmaThe promise of the Internet was that unlimited information and experiences would draw us together. But instead it seems to have driven us apart.
For years I've observed this behavior but haven't been able to vocalize it correctly. Originally I called the behavior of collective opinions as "the hive mentality" of the Internet. But that wasn't exactly right and I often got called out on it. The most prominent example was when I made a comic about a guy disagreeing with opinions and being shouted at till he remained quiet, eventually fading into the background with everyone else. The consensus of that comic was that if you disagree with someone you aren't bullied into not speaking, but instead are free to go someplace else where people who do agree with you exist. And you know what? That wasn't what i was trying to convey, but is sadly true. The Internet is not a hive mind. It's many tiny pocket echo chambers of mutual agreements.

So my husband informed me today while I was tole painting that I had gotten a DD for

. OMFG I can't believe it!!!! I want to send big hugs out to

for suggesting it and

for featuring it. I'm literally in shock, and am also just staring at the amount of messages I have for me. I am a big believer in thanking everybody, but that is just impossible with the amount, so I'm saying a huge thank you right here to everyone who has checked me out not only today, but in the past month. I keep making art because of all of you, so thank you for inspiring me!!! I have to say that it still blows my mind when I get a DD, because when I first joined DA I never expected to go anywhere or even have anyone care about my stuff, and it makes me so overjoyed that there are fellow artists out there that appreciate what I do, it's what drives me in many ways
